A Simple Story Lyrics & Chords By Rich Aucoin

LyricsView Chords

And so the story begins with a great king of enormous wealth and power. A power so great, it seemed to get the king anything he desired. Yet, there was one desire which remained unfulfilled: the king's desire for immortality. The king was not so naïve to think that he could live forever, but wished that he would be eternally remembered.

One by one however, his attempts to be remembered failed. His wife bore him a single daughter, and immediately fell ill after her birth. As his wife passed away, he declared he would not love again. As time passed, his earthly monuments showed signs of decay. Soon afterwards, he too showed signs of life's corrosion.

So he called forth all the wise men in his kingdom to each bring him a truth from their wisdom. Each however failed to stand against refutation. As time passed, the king began to think that the immortal truth was an impossible wish. And so he bore himself in a remote wing of his palace with orders for no one to disturb him unless they brought him an answer to his wish. And so there the king stayed, alone, waiting for death's inevitable call.

This was until one day a wise man came forth to the isolated king and declared, "This too, one day, shall pass."
