Yiannis Xylouris –Ψαρογιάννης– born in Anogeia started playing mandolin at 5 years of age. He then progressed to lute and lyra. His grandfather Karamouzantonis and great uncle Michalios were renowned lyra players of their time. At 12 years of age Psarogiannis was playing at events in the village with his brothers Nikos Xylouris and Psarantonis.
