Born on July 14, 1889 in the Bulgarian village Kostour Kumanichevo (today Lithium), then the Ottoman Empire, today in Greece. In 1895 his family moved to Constantinople, where he completed his secondary education in Bulgarian Seminary. Graduated Seminary in Istanbul. He studied composition at the Conservatory in St. Petersburg with teacher N. Sokolov, S. Petrov and A. Glazunov and Eastern music with Prof. Saketi (1911-15) and law at St. Petersburg University.
