The Japanese singer Mari Watanabe, (Japanese: 渡辺マリ, real name Tomomi Watanabe) was born Saitama in 1942. She was discovered by a talent scout in 1960. In 1961 the song "Tokyo Dodonpa Daughter" 東京ドドンパ娘 became a big hit and sold 15 million copies. After that followed "Ginza Jungle Girl" 銀座ジャングル娘, "Black Butterfly Blues" 黒い蝶のブルース and "Tokyo Boy Hunt" 東京ボーイハント, but she retired from singing soon after. Read more on Last.fm.
