Originally from Newark, New Jersey, Aliza wrote her first song at age 6. Between the ages of 6 and 16, Aliza wrote over 250 original songs. Of African-American and Puerto Rican descent, musical influences were diverse. Aliza sang gospel, spiritual and secular music in grade school; in high school she sang opera and choral music, and in college sang musical theater and was the lead singer of an afrobeat band.
