Auto da Fé were initially an experimental noise pop band, formed in Prague in 1991 by Steve Curati. Despite never releasing a record and playing live irregularly, they gained a cult following for their one-off performances. The original line-up featured Steve Curati (guitars and vocals), Theresa (vocals), Jan Muchow (of fellow Prague band Ecstasy of Saint Theresa) guesting on bass and a drum machine.
