Batteaux was brothers Robin Batteau and David Batteau. Robin had previously played violin in appaloosa and compton & batteau, and David would release a solo album following Batteaux's one album. After signing with personal manager, Richard Flanzer (Roger Daltrey, Manhattan Transfer, Dr. John) Batteaux auditioned for legendary hit maker, Clive Davis.
