Moved to Tappahannock (Essex County), Virginia in 1904 Born in Dover, Georgia, he was the only Virginian country bluesman to record for the Paramount label (1928 in Chicago). His four 78 rpm records are highly sought by collectors and have been numerously re-released on LP and CD compilation albums.
