Brian Wilson and Van Dyke Parks first collaborated on The Beach Boys famed aborted Smile project. Though this album was eventually scrapped, Wilson and Parks wrote many songs together that would be released by The Beach Boys in the following years. In 1995, the duo released the album Orange Crate Art. Essentially being a solo Van Dyke Parks album, with guest vocals from Brian Wilson, it was considered a critical and commercial flop.
