Cartoon Tree was founded in 17.2.1996, by Harri Huuhtanen and Jari Kangaskorte, after discovering their mutual passion for melancholic power-pop with beautiful melodies and Beatlesque harmonies. They started to write songs that followed along the lines of such pop-groups as Teenage Fanclub, Fountains of Wayne and Posies, and soon after the entire band took shape, the first single "Roller" was released under Popatak label.
