Born in St Asaph, raised in Fflint. Left home at age 18 to go to university in Manchester and decided to stay. Earliest musical influences were his brother's Roxy Music albums and Eno's 'Here Come the Warm Jets'. Bowie, Floyd, Hawkwind followed, then a deep fascination with 72-74 era King Crimson and an equal revulsion for Genesis. Punk passed him by whilst trawling the back catalogues of Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report.
