Du Cong (杜聪) graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1985, where he was a prized pupil of the two maestri in dizi, Lu Chunling and Zhao Songting. He joined the Shanghai Folk Orchestra in the same year, and was later transferred to the Shanghai Song and Dance Troupe.
