Genossen were founded in Reutlingen, Southwest Germany, in 1984 by Virus (voice), Schilli (bass), Schneller (guitar) and Matsch (drums). The fast Hardcore Punk of Genossen with its engaged, leftist German lyrics soon developped a big fan community all over Germany.
