Joshua began playing piano at around the age of seven, when his babysitter taught him how to play "Heart and Soul." He continued learning pop-style keyboards as well as drums, guitar, and bass until starting serious classical piano lessons at the age of twelve. The next several years saw Joshua traveling around the state of Washington, winning competitions and playing with orchestras.
