Karin Plato grew up on the prairies in a small farming community called Alsask in the province of Saskatchewan. She studied the piano throughout her childhood. She later attended the University of Saskatchewan where she received her Bachelor of Music Degree in piano and voice. Karin recorded her first album of jazz standards and originals in 1996 on a recording called Pastiche. In 1998 she recorded There's Beauty in the Rain for which she was nominated for a Juno award.
