Kuusumu was formed by Sakari Heikkilä, a prominent songwriter from Pietarsaari, Finland. The band consisted of Juha Savela (lead guitar), Sakari Mäntyranta (bass guitar) and Tuomas Rauhala (drums and percussion). The band was formed in Kaustinen College of Music in Finland in the early autumn 2002 as the average age of the bandmembers was 17.
