Legua York is a hip-hop group that formed in 1997 in the streets of La Legua, a neighborhood in southern Santiago de Chile -- "just a legua" from the city center. During the September 11, 1973 military coup, La Legua was the only poblacion (organized low-income urban community) where the youth openly rejected the military takeover. Today La Legua is notorious for its drug dealing and violence.
