Catalan alto sax player Llibert Fortuny (pronounced Leebairt Fortoon) was in fact born in the Canary Islands in 1977, as his parents had moved there to work. He started playing the sax when he was 11 after studying music, piano and guitar from age 7. In 1997, he graduated from the Conservatory in Manresa (60 km. – 35 miles NW of Barcelona) and received a scholarship to continue his studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass.
