Born May 1, 1937, Estabuchie, Mississippi, USA. Also known as Lucky Lopez, Evans was inspired by the singing and playing of his father and began to play the guitar at the age of eight. As a teenager he worked with a band in Milwaukee and then travelled throughout the southern states until 1964 when he settled in Chicago, having joined Howlin’ Wolf’s band.
