Máirín was born into a family and an area steeped in traditional music. As early as the age of three she was dancing and playing and proceeded to win many All Ireland titles. Mairin’s grandfather, Thomas Whyte was the founding member of the famous "Ballinakill Ceili Band", the first Irish band to record on the new Irish Radio Station in 1929.
