Manic Surge started as a solo endeavor, in the late 1970's, he also played in 'New Wave' groups such as the Manic Dirge, an experimental group influenced by the Birthday Party, Public Image, Bauhaus and Joy Division. Another group he was in, as the guitarist was Five Easy Pieces which was fronted by an African female singer, the music was in a Rhythm and Blues, Soul style.
