Marina Shmotova was Born in 1959 in Irkutsk, Eastern Siberia. After she had left the Irkutsk College of Arts with a specialization "pianist", she continued her studies in Moscow. In 1985 she graduated from the Gnessin Music Academy where she studied composition under Nikolai Peiko.
