Vibhor Sharma, Colin Zelin, and Mike Emmerich were all members of a pop/folk band at Muhlenberg College. All feeling somewhat unsatisfied with the direction the band was going in and the lack of new music being written, they decided to form a "side project" of stuff that they had been writing that was deemed "too heavy" for their previous act.
