Open System are Michael Martin & Matt Hillier. The two decided to combine forces in 2003. The pair are also working on a new ambient/IDM project called Octophonic (also featuring the late Jake Stephenson otherwise known as Ganja Beats). Matt's main project is Ishq, with his partner Jacqui. They are based in Cornwall, UK, and have been writing music since about 1994 under various names and guises.
