According to the unit's website, Panda 1/2 began in 2009 when James Panda Jr. came to Japan looking for a new base of operations. He scoped out Tokyo, traveling to all of the neighborhoods in the city, and while taking a rest in a museum in Ginza, he heard Minami humming, and "the rest is history".
