Pena Branca was the artistic name of José Ramiro Sobrinho (1939 - 2010), one half of the celebrated duo Pena Branca & Xavantinho, known for the exceptional quality of their interpretations of Brazilian sertaneja (country/bluegrass) music. Upon the death of his brother Xavantinho in 1999, Pena Branca carried on as a solo artist recording three outstanding albums, Semente Caipira, Cantar Caipira, and Pena Branca Canta Xavantinho.
