Philip Pullman is a contemporary writer living in Oxford, England. He is most famous for his His Dark Materials trilogy, first published between 1995 and 2000. The books – Northern Lights (published as The Golden Compass in the US), The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass - have been shortlisted for and won Pullman numerous awards, most famously the Whitbread Book of the Year Award in 2001.
