Project Waffles started out as Wallflip in June 2006 with Rachel Cheng (vocalist), Johnny Hwang (pianist), and Stephen Liu (guitarist) when Johnny Hwang suggested that the three should start a band. Recording started in August 2006. By then, the band name changed to Project Waffles. In late August, Rachel Cheng decided to drop out of the band, citing differences in voice training.
