Psy-Sci is Matthew Timpanelli from Staten Island. His name was psychedelascience but was abbreviated by a messageboard poster on the wfmu forum. He became involved in a free music community on a filesharing application called soulseek. The resulting netlabel was called soulseek records and continues to promote new music from unsigned artists.
