Robert Mándel was born in Budapest in 1957. He took up the hurdy-gurdy when he completed an appranticeship as a musical instrument maker. Performing on instruments of his own making, he has regularly been touring Hungary, Austria, Britain, Finland, France, the Netherlands, the two Germanies, Switzerland and the United States.
