The band the Alkaloids was founded in 2008 by Sjoerd Versluis and Machiel Hoogenboom after their band ‘De Niets’ came to an end. Inspired by bands like System of a Down, Queens of the Stone Age, Triggerfinger, Karma to Burn and Kyuss they started writing songs. After a while Dirk Jan Versluis joined them on guitar.
