The Go Away Birds happened by chance while Catherine Ireton was recording an album with Belle and Sebastian called God Help the Girl in Glasgow, United Kingdom and while Michael John McCarthy was preparing Zoey van Goey's Scottish summer tour. Conveniently located around the corner from the studio was Michael John's house, and so in between cups of tea and reminiscing, the pair recorded an album's worth of songs in his living room.
