The Masters V (aka Masters Five) first came together in 1977 to sing at the funeral of Elvis Presley. After JD Sumner retired the Stamps and Hovie Lister retired The Statesmen in 1980, they formed the group with JD Sumner from The Stamps Quartet; Hovie Lister, Rozie Rozell and Jake Hess from The Statesmen Quartet; and James Blackwood from The Blackwood Brothers.
