The Whirlwinds were a Manchester group who formed in 1964 and only made one record, but they were the launchpad for one of Britain's better-known talents. The five-piece outfit included Graham Gouldman. The "A" side of their record was a faithfully reproduced Buddy Holly song while the "B" side was written by Lol Creme, another Mancunian who would meet up with Gouldman again in 70's band 10cc.
