Born in Rio de Janeiro (Mar 10, 1943) , he wrote his first song in his teens, and at age 19, singer Alaíde Costa had already recorded two of his compositions: "Natureza" and "Igrejinha". Barros recorded his debut single in 1963 (featuring "Vim de Santana" and "Fim"), and joined the Sexteto Brasileiro de Bossa playing the double-bass that same year.
