Thumbs Up! was born one summer night at the Model Cafe in Allston Massachusetts in Boston. Adam had decided that he wanted to start a fake posi-core band a'la Crucial Youth and thought Thumbs Up! Would be an appropriately stupid name. The original lineup was Dan Pond and Rob Matthews on guitar, Jason Benzaken on bass, Matt Wilson on drums, Adam Haut as the moshing guard, and Adam Taylor on vocals.
