Vladimir Fainer was born in 1966 in Kharkov, Ukraine. He studied music on his own, from the beginning showing interest in ancient and classical music. At the age of sixteen he began attending Orthodox church services and was baptized. Graduated from the Kharkov music college in 1988, majoring in trumpet.
