Rat Scabies had left The Damned in October 1977 and straight away set out to form his own band. First attempts as Rat Scabies & The Runners and then Drunk & Disorderly were unsuccessful but by January 1978 he had formed The White Cats. From January to August 1978 The White Cats gigged and acquired management but no record deal. It became apparent that they were getting nowhere and in September 1978 Rat returned to The Damned. .
