William Preucil began studying violin at the age of five with his mother, Doris Preucil, a pioneer in Suzuki violin instruction in the United States. At the age of sixteen he entered Indiana University, where he received a prestigious performer's award. He studied with Josef Gingold, Zino Francescatti and György Sebok.
