Winduptoys started in 1997 as a side project for Robert Boehm (Bo from the band "Clowns Smiling Backwards"), where he could explore his more instrumental / electronic leanings as well as utilising elements from exotica, soundtracks and industrial / DUB.. A year or so later saw Jeremy C. Smith ("Tugboat ", "Wayfaring Strangers", etc) joining him for live performances.
