Ohyama Yurika was born on May 20th, 1984 on the southern Japanese Okinoerabu Island. She grew up surrounded by the traditional shimauta music and musicians typical of the area, and took the style to heart. In the later years of high school, she decided that she wanted to focus on music. She was accepted to the Professional Music School in Tokyo, where she studied vocal music.
